Dark Horse Comics has announced a HELLBOY 8" QEE coming in August.
Based on Mike Mignola’s comic Hellboy.
As a follow-up to the 2.5 inch Hellboy Qee. Dark Horse brings you the 8 inch Hellboy Qee. (edition of 1,500) $79.99 (pictured below)
Mike Mignola was asked by Dark Horse to pick an artist to design the
Tara McPherson! Tara was happy to comply, and has designed a unique
version of Hellboy all her own!
Tara McPherson variant Hellboy Qee. (edition of 450) $79.99. (no picture yet, I'll post it as soon as it's available)
WOW! I can't wait to see Tara's version!
Alright, so for the first time ever I am paying attention to how my photos look. Why, because everyone else's look better that's why. So I'm practicing, trying new techniques, etc.
And then I was shown this:
http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html
So I gathered up so bits and bobs, made a light box and started shooting.
I think I need some stronger lights, and a few tweaks to the box (a colored background or two) and I may have something that perfectly fits my meager needs.
Now let's see if I can put it to good use.
Whoo-hoo! More Minimates! More Minimates! More Minimates! Geez I like these little things.
Series 3 came out last week (or maybe the week before) who knows - they were waiting for me when I got back from vacation. I was happy!
Here are some more attempts at improving my photos (not there yet).
Batman with Killer Croc and Wonder Woman with Ares. Even better - two larger, more menacing villians.
And look! Batman and Deathstroke have faces under their hoods (and hairplugs - HA).
Lots of accessories in this batch - Green Arrow has numerous arrows, Deathstroke has a bunch of guns, everybody except Croc has something. Paint jobs are all pristine, tight joints, etc. Only wish I have is that Deathstrokes hip holster was tighter to his leg, but I can glue that.
And just because Deathstroke is cool, say hello to mini-d!
More coming soon.
Eisner nomination for Brad Guigar
Phables, Brad Guigar weekly comic about life in Philadelphia, (and the author of the previously blogged Evil, Inc.) has been nominated for an Eisner Award, the comic-book industry’s top award!
Phables began last year as a bi-weekly comic in the Philadelphia Daily News. After an enormous response from readers, it was promoted to appearing in the paper every week. It is Brad's attempt to re-imagine the standard newspaper “life about town” column.
"To say that I’m thrilled is an understatement!" said Brad.
Congrats Brad!
Phables, Courting Disaster and Evil, Inc are all top notch work!
I'm a sucker for an old-fashioned comic strip. Probably just nostalgia from being a kid, stretched out on the floor reading Calvin and Hobbes and Bloom County. Sure I read the rest, Garfield, Peanuts, etc. but they were just filler between my favorites and when those two died so did my habit of reading the paper every day. Instead I caught up on Pogo, the Spirit, Dick Tracy, other masterpieces of the serialized daily format. Then I became enamored with Liberty Meadows - Frank Cho's brilliant take on the format, but one that wasn't available in a paper available to me. So I read it online, Then the Boondocks. Then Aaron went on hiatus. Cho switched to comics. What's a guy to do?
So I wandering into the world of self-published online strips.T
hen on to random online strips that fell under the umbrella of my interests - toys and superheroes. And the two that kept me reading the longest are Evil Inc. and Shortpacked.
Shortpacked is all about toys from the perspective of 20 somethings working in a toy store.
You can find it here.

Along with author David Willis's blog. Funny stuff if you are into that kind of thing.
And then there is Evil Inc. An online daily about the inner workings of a corporation created and run by Supervillians.
Supervillians who decided they could do more evil if they were part of the corporate world.
And it lives here:

Brad J. Guigar has a great sense of timing and the extended storylines are great reads. And the art is easy on the eyes too!
Looks like I fell behind again - I'll get it together sooner or later. Sorry. :) I've been rambling way too much at VTF.
Also I realize I forgot something in my toy rambling - the DC Minimates. So here's a quick update:
At long last we have minimates for the DC Universe! Hooray! I've been buying the Marvel ones from the beginning, just to fill the void until DC ones were released. After a few false starts, delays and other snafu's they have finally arrived. Well at least the first 2 waves have. So pictured I have wave 1 and wave 2 plus a few extras.
DC MINIMATES WAVE 1
GREEN LANTERN and STAR SAPPHIRE
CLASSIC SUPERMAN and LEX LUTHOR
JOKER and HARLEY QUINN
BATMAN and OMAC
DR. FATE and POWERGIRL
SUPERMAN and BRAINIAC 13
ROBIN and PENGUIN
BOOSTER GOLD and BLUE BEETLE
Flash, Riddler and Catwoman were from the last release attempt and came with small Lego type sets. That didn't work out so well. The John Stewart Green Lantern was a giveaway from Toyfair last year, maybe a convention. Maybe both, it's been awhile, who can remember. The package promoted their release last fall - so it was a year ago at least.
Anyway, they are great! Perfect little translations of a wide variety of DC characters. Sure the selection is a little but broad more are on the way.
DC MINIMATES WAVE 3
GREEN ARROW and DEATHSTROKE
BATMAN and KILLER CROC
AQUAMAN and OCEAN MASTER
WONDER WOMAN and ARES
BATGIRL and BANE
STEEL and CYBORG SUPERMAN
FLASH and WILDCAT
DEADMAN and SPECTRE
DC MINIMATES WAVE 5
CAPTAIN MARVEL and MARY MARVEL
HAWKMAN and HAWKGIRL
GUY GARDNER and KILOWOG
RED TORNADO and MA HUNKEL
DC MINIMATES WAVE 6
WONDER WOMAN and CHEETAH
BIZARRO and SUPERGIRL
S.T.R.I.P.E. and STARGIRL
SGT. ROCK and BLACKHAWK
You can't ask for much more then that. At least not if you're a DC nerd like me. The paint jobs are perfect, the joints all tight and unlike the Marvel predecessors no figures with 2 left legs. For $7 a 2 pack the price isn't too bad either. A nice standout is Braniac. He uses the larger body style that Art Asylum developed for the Lord of the Rings Minimates. A line-up that utilized three bodystyles - one for the Hobbits, one for the humans and one for the monsters. So he stands above the others and looks properly menacing.
Be back in a bit mini more mini-madness.
